Not everyone enjoys or wants to take part in Halloween. If you would rather not have trick or treaters call at your home, you can download Kent Police’s ‘no trick or treat’ sign for your front door or window.
If you have young children:
never let them go trick or treating on their own – make sure that an adult stays with them at all times
make sure they only visit people known to your family
if there aren’t decorations or pumpkins outside someone’s house they’re probably not celebrating, so it’s best not to knock
If you have teenagers:
if there aren’t decorations or pumpkins outside someone’s house they’re probably not celebrating, so it’s best not to knock
make sure they are not going to be using alcohol or play a trick on someone using flour or eggs
make it clear that if a ‘no trick or treat’ sign is displayed, they should leave straight away
advise them to stay in a group and never go into the home of someone they don’t know
Did you know that 0-15 year olds make up around 20% of our local population here in Edenbridge? We’re proud of the fantastic facilities we offer for our young residents and the support/funding we provide to local groups and clubs that benefit them.
With summer holidays now here, we hope this serves as a great reminder of all the wonderful activities and opportunities available for young people in our town. Make this summer unforgettable with these family-friendly activities!
Let the kids have a blast at local playgrounds and parks like Stangrove Park and the Recreation Ground with swings, slides, and plenty of space to run around.
Got older kids? Check out Blossoms Park skate park for some trick practice and socialising.
Pack a picnic and relax in the beautiful green spaces around town.
Visit Edenbridge Market on a Thursday. Little ones will love learning all the names of produce on the Fruit ‘n’ Veg stall and can help you pick up ingredients to do some baking at home.
Take a walk down the High Street and support our local, independent businesses, perhaps treating the family to an ice-cream
Come along to one of our free Family Fun Days – 1,8,15,22 August at Stangrove Park 2-5pm
The Pavilion at the Recreation Ground, Lingfield Road, which is owned by the Town Council and home to Edenbridge Rugby Football Club, has had new windows, double window doors and electronic shutters fitted.
These enhancements have been funded by a CIL (Community Infrastructure Levy) grant. This is money the Town Council receives from developers to help fund certain infrastructure, facilities and services for the local community.
With Edenbridge’s rich history of sporting success, we hope these improvements will inspire future generations to get involved and stay active.
Thank you to specialist industrial door company Rite Doors for carrying out the works.
Our popular and FREE family fun days are returning to Stangrove Park this August with lots of activities for everyone.
2 pm to 5 pm on Thursdays 1, 8, 15 and 22 August 2024
There will be crafts, games, sports, and more in a friendly and safe environment.
There’s no need to book, simply turn up and have fun. However, children must be supervised by a parent or guardian at all times. Activities are provided for children under the age of 12, but they may not be suitable for very young children.
Also this year, Millwall Community Trust has teamed up with Kellogg’s to offer free football camps to girls and boys aged 5 to 12 at certain fun days such as Four Elms. Places are limited to 40 people per session and must be booked in advance. To claim a free place, you’ll need a promotional code which can be found on the boxes of most Kellogg’s products.
This International Women’s Day we want to help #InspireInclusion by shining a light on Girlguiding in Edenbridge and the words of Anna Segall, Chief Executive of the World Association of Girl Guide and Girl Scouts:
“Girlguiding is slowly growing in Edenbridge,” says 1st Edenbridge Guides Leader, Steph Harrison. “We have just opened a new Brownie unit, and our Guide unit continues to grow. This has only been possible with support from the community, and the girls who want to be part of Girlguiding. Our supporters include Edenbridge Town Council, who awarded us a grant of just over £500 this year, and have also supported us previously. This supports enables girls to participate in activities that help to grow their confidence, share new experiences, learn new skills and learn that Girls Can Do Anything!”
Brownies meet from 5.15 pm to 6.45 pm for girls age 7-10
Guides meet from 7 pm – 8.30 pm for girls age 10-15
We know that girls face pressures and expectations in every area of their lives. They’re limited by gender stereotypes, and they can face barriers to accessing the things they need to be happy.
Research shows that half of girls aged 14-17 believe that girls are more likely to experience negative gendered stereotypes than boys. And over a quarter of girls aged 14-17 have had a stereotype stop them from doing something. Girls also tell us about the discrimination they face in their daily lives – our research shows that two thirds of girls aged 11 to 21 report seeing or experiencing sexism at school, college, university or work.
But we know that Girlguiding can help change this. Girls in Girlguiding are more confident than their peers: nearly 9 in 10 of them say they like being the way they are (compared with just 6 in 10 who have never been in Girlguiding).
Girlguiding offers a safe, inclusive space for all girls – one where they can try new things with friends they trust and volunteers they look up to. This will give them courage, connections, confidence, and memories they’ll never forget. And when girls feel confident, they are more likely to know that they can do anything
**Due to unforeseen circumstances, Millwall Community Trust has cancelled the football sessions in Edenbridge and Swanley for the time being. They hope to rearrange them for later in the year.**
Millwall Community Trust is offering FREE football sessions for boys & girls aged 8-16 in Edenbridge. There’s no need to book, just turn up & have fun!
Ages 8 to 11 – 5pm to 6pm
Ages 12 to 16 – 6pm to 7pm
Please use the football car park entrance on Lingfield Road, rather than the rugby car park on Coombe Field.
Kai Day joins the Council’s Groundsteam as a Level 2 horticultural operative apprentice and will gain hands-on experience of looking after the town’s award-winning open spaces and sports pitches. He will help manage Edenbridge’s eight parks and greens, as well as five playgrounds, the Millennium Wood and Edenbridge Cemetery; learning skills such as grass cutting, refuse management, hedge and vegetation management, weeding, planting and sports pitch maintenance.
“I feel really pleased to have this opportunity of being the Town Council’s first apprentice and I’m looking forward to learning new skills,” said Kai. “The team is very friendly and supportive and I believe I will learn a lot from their experience of grounds work through watching and interacting with them. I have grown up and lived in Edenbridge all my life so this makes me feel proud to look after grounds which people use frequently and to make the town have a nice environment.”
Head Groundsman, Craig Open, said: “We are really pleased to welcome Kai to the team and look forward to supporting him in his career development. We have lots of experience and skills within the team, so it’s rewarding to know that we can help guide the next generation of horticultural experts.”
Town Clerk, Caroline Leet, said: “As a Council we are keen to provide opportunities for all our staff, and this is especially exciting as we are supporting a young person to gain work skills and training through college. Apprenticeships are a great way for young people to gain professional qualifications as well as provide a way to earn while you learn, combining on-the-job training with off-the-job learning.
“Kai joins an award-winning team and will be learning from the best! Just earlier this year our Groundsteam were proud to receive two Silver-Gilt awards at the South & South East in Bloom Awards for Stangrove Park and Edenbridge Cemetery. The Council also achieved a ‘Good’ standard for all five of the football pitches at the Recreation Ground, Lingfield Road following a PitchPower assessment.” (Pitches are rated Good/Poor/Basic).
Two more dates left! 2 pm to 5 pm at Stangrove Park, with an extra activity each week:
17 August: Balloon modelling
24 August: Face painting
There’s no need to book, simply turn up and have fun. However, children must be supervised by a parent or guardian at all times. Activities are provided for children under the age of 12, but they may not be suitable for very young children.

They thought their playground days were over! Cllr Angela Baker and Cllr Alan Layland at Hever C of E Primary School
Cllr Angela Baker and Cllr Alan Layland were able to step out of the office last week and back in the playground to attend Hever C of E Primary School’s ‘Volunteer and Supporter Tea‘.
In 2022 the Town Council’s CIL Board awarded the school £24,659.72 towards its Longevity Project. The project aims to transform the functionality and all-weather usability of the outdoor areas by improving the ground and installing new play equipment and a children’s outdoor gym.
Cllr Baker said: “It is clearly evident to see how hard the PTA works in the school and what an amazing impact they have. “It was a lovely afternoon hosted by the Year 6 class and a great opportunity to see the difference our grant has made towards the playground equipment and outdoor area. I’m sure the children really enjoy using the wonderful space that has been created.”
Cllr Layland added: “Over 80% of pupils at Hever School are Edenbridge residents, so I’m pleased that these improvements will benefit them and many others for years to come.”
Edenbridge Town Council supports West Kent with funding to run the HOUSE youth club throughout the year, as well as other activities it offers to support young people in Edenbridge.
