Eden Valley Footpaths Group

Serviced by the Administration and Tourism Officer, this group meets twice per year in formal committee, to which representatives of the Kent Rights of Way team, the Surrey Rights of Way team and the Ramblers Association are always invited. Its policy is to encourage walking for recreation and health by helping to maintain the local footpath network to the highest standards achievable within its resources, over and above the basic maintenance provided by Kent County Council (KCC). This is achieved through the vigilance of the volunteers, monthly joint walks to clear minor undergrowth, check waymarking etc on selected paths, and providing notice to KCC of necessary work etc, where this cannot be undertaken by the Council’s ground staff under authorisation from KCC.

Volunteers are formally co-opted to ensure that when undertaking any work as authorised they are covered by the Council’s insurance. It promotes walking by the production and issue of walk leaflets, and, subject to funding and landowners’ agreement, the conversion of certain walks to routes which are more disabled friendly by replacing stiles with kissing gates.
