Building bridges to a dementia friendly Edenbridge

Edenbridge Town Council is working with the Kent Dementia Action Alliance (KDAA) to help make Edenbridge a supportive and friendly place for those who are living with dementia. Together, we connect with local businesses and community groups to raise awareness by sharing information and promoting best practice. This partnership initiative is also supported by Eden Valley Chamber of Commerce and Edenbridge Manor Care Home.

All those who sign up to the pledge will be offered free face-to-face training.

“There are over 27,000 diagnosed people living with dementia across Kent. There are many more undiagnosed people living at home with dementia.” Kent Dementia Action Alliance

The Kent Dementia Action Alliance (KDAA) delivers its services through Dementia Friendly Communities (DFCs) across Kent. The Sevenoaks Area Dementia Friendly Community (SADFC), which also runs the Forget me not cafes, is Edenbridge’s local DFC, which can support businesses to become more aware of dementia, to make small changes, and commit to help make Edenbridge more accessible for people living with dementia and hidden disabilities.

How businesses can get involved

If you run a local organisation or business, you can enhance your social and community responsibility by joining us to make Edenbridge more dementia friendly. Being dementia and hidden disability friendly is being customer friendly, with benefits for your business too!

  • Sign-up to the pledge and receive support to achieve Kent Dementia Friendly Recognition through making simple pledges.
  • Become informed about dementia and how you can make a difference in your community.
  • Learn how to make your business environment and your staff dementia friendly.
  • Gain and use the Kent Dementia Friendly Symbol in your emails and display it on your business premises.

For further information or support, contact Sevenoaks Area Dementia Friendly Community via the Forget me not Cafe. You can also contact Edenbridge Town Council.

Working to become dementia friendly symbol

The dementia friendly symbol demonstrates that your business or organisation is working towards becoming dementia friendly, and that a person with dementia will therefore be welcomed and receive understanding, respect and support. The scheme is free to join and just asks you to consider small changes that will make a big difference. The application process is simple and Dementia Action Alliance partners are here to help you. Once accredited, you will be able to display this logo in your premises and website to show that you are working to become dementia friendly.
