About the Council
What we do
At Edenbridge Town Council, our mission is to represent the interests of the local community, working in partnership with residents, businesses, and other organisations to create a safe, welcoming, and prosperous environment. We strive to maintain and improve public services, encourage community engagement, and foster a strong sense of local pride.
We are responsible for a range of local services and facilities, including:
- Managing public spaces such as parks, allotments, and cemeteries.
- Supporting local events and community projects.
- Maintaining and developing sports and recreational facilities.
- Monitoring and improving public amenities, including street lighting, street furniture and public toilets.
- Liaising with district and county authorities on planning, infrastructure, and transportation issues.

Councillors/Members
The Council is made up of 15 elected councillors, also known as ‘members’ who represent one of the two local wards: Edenbridge South & West or Edenbridge North & East. These councillors serve as the bridge between the community and local government, ensuring that the needs and concerns of residents are heard and addressed.
Each councillor brings their unique skills, perspectives, and commitment to make decisions that will help shape the future of Edenbridge. The Council’s focus is on maintaining a thriving, well-connected community, while preserving the town’s unique heritage and character.
Councillors meet regularly to discuss issues ranging from public services to local planning. By participating in council meetings, events, and public forums, councillors stay connected with residents and continue to respond to evolving local priorities. The Council also has councillor respresentatives on external bodies.
Monthly councillor and resident drop-in
On the last Thursday of every month (11am to 12pm), you can go along to the Bridges Centre on Edenbridge High Street to meet with local town councillors. It is an opportunity to discuss any matters that are important to you or get advice and guidance in a welcoming and informal environment.
Civility and Respect
Our pledge
Edenbridge Town Council is proud to support the work of the National Association for Local Councils (NALC) and the Society for Local Council Clerks(SLCC) to protect the wellbeing of councillors, officers, and staff. As part of this commitment, we have signed the Civility & Respect Pledge (and reaffirmed in 2025).
Over 800 councils across England and Wales have now signed the pledge. Its goal is simple: to promote respect, improve behaviour, and strengthen governance in local councils. To help raise awareness, Edenbridge Town Council has also written to our local MP, Tom Tugendhat, encouraging him to raise this issue in Parliament.
By signing the pledge, the Council commits to:
-
Treating all councillors, employees, members of the public, volunteers, and partner representatives with civility and respect.
-
Supporting a safe and professional environment for everyone involved in local government.
NALC mission statement
Why civility and respect matter
Local democracy works best when everyone feels safe, valued, and respected. Intimidation, bullying, and abuse – online or in person – undermine councils, discourage community participation, and damage public trust.
NALC, SLCC, and partner organisations are committed to:
-
Promoting civility and respect in all council activities.
-
Supporting the wellbeing of councillors, staff, and volunteers.
-
Strengthening governance and encouraging positive public engagement.
Through the Civility & Respect Programme, councils receive:
-
Guidance and tools to support good governance.
-
Training and resources to build skills and confidence.
-
Intervention support for councils facing challenges.
-
National lobbying to improve standards and participation in local democracy.
By signing the pledge, Edenbridge Town Council reinforces its commitment to creating a respectful, professional, and welcoming environment for everyone involved in local government.
