The Local Plan is an important document that will guide what can be built and where over the next 15 years.

Edenbridge Town Council has submitted its response to Sevenoaks District Council’s latest publication of the Plan as part of Regulation 19.

Response summary

Edenbridge Town Council is grateful for the opportunities it has had to discuss the proposals and the infrastructure needs of Edenbridge, and notes that a number of matters raised through the preceding Regulation 18 consultations have been reflected in the Regulation 19 Plan. The Town Council recognises the importance of having an up-to-date and sound Local Plan and the considerable challenge involved in accommodating the District’s housing requirement within the environmental and infrastructure constraints of Sevenoaks District. Its representations are therefore not intended to resist appropriate growth in Edenbridge, but to seek a more proportionate distribution of development, together with a clear and deliverable framework for the infrastructure required to support that growth. The Town Council’s principal concerns remain the overall scale of housing proposed for Edenbridge, the cumulative impact of that development and whether the necessary infrastructure can be delivered at the scale and time required. The detailed representations submitted alongside this statement set out the modifications which the Town Council considers would better address those concerns. They can be viewed in the documents below.

Further information

By the end of 2026, SDC intends to submit the Local Plan for examination by the Planning Inspectorate. This submission will include all the comments made during the Regulation 19 publication. The timetable for the examination, which will include public hearings, will be set by the Planning Inspectorate. The examination is expected to take place in 2027. If the Planning Inspectorate concludes the Local Plan is sound, Sevenoaks District Council will adopt it, and it will be used to help determine planning applications.
