Edenbridge Thursday Market gets the spotlight

The Town’s weekly market has got a special shout-out in the August edition of Market Times – a national magazine published by the National Market Traders Federation (NMTF).

In the article, Lorraine Ganney (Responsible Finance Officer for Edenbridge Town Council), talks about the Council’s work to revive the market after the number of stalls had dwindled to just four last summer.

Fast forward to this summer, there are now around 10 stalls each week selling a variety of produce such as bread, fish, cheese, plants and cakes, as well as services such as knife-sharpening and watch repairs. There are also traders like John Beaney – he has been selling his fruit and veg here for the past 25 years and even organised deliveries during Covid. “John’s banter and friendly approach is a big hit on the market, especially among some older shoppers who look forward to buying their veg from him every Thursday,” says Lorraine.
