There was a lovely atmosphere in Doggetts Courtyard on Wednesday 10 August, as nearly 80 residents gathered to listen to a talk from local horticulturalist and plant-hunter Tom Hart Dyke.
Tom shared memories of his plant-hunting expeditions around the world in his early 20s, and how one fateful decision led to his kidnapping in a Colombian jungle.
It was during Tom’s time in captivity that he drew up plans for his dream garden – the ‘World Garden’, which he has since been developing at his ancestral home of Lullingstone Castle & The World Garden near Sevenoaks. To find out more about Tom, visit: Tom Hart Dyke – Plant Hunter
Thank you to everyone that helped with the event, which was funded by a grant from Kent County Council’s Covid-19 Local Recovery Fund. We hope it’s inspired people to discover more about the world of plants and the joys of gardening!
