‘????? ?????? ????’ ?????? ????????????.
Last night (4 October) entrants and residents came together to congratulate the winners and runners up. There were some fantastic floral displays, nature gardens and allotments entered. It was great to see so many young people entering which made judging the Young Gardner of the year tough.
Thank you to everyone who entered the gardening competition, and to local resident Nantawan Staples, who was a finalist in the 2021 BBC Gardener’s World magazine, for judging the entries along with Cllrs Baker, Layland and Todd and the Community Warden.
Jim Buttress presented the prizes to the winners and runner-up, and then entertained guests with anecdotes from his career at the Royal Parks in London, where he was responsible for Hyde Park, St James Park, Clarence House and Buckingham Palace. Jim has won eight gold medals at the Chelsea Flower show. One anecdote was from meeting Her Late Majesty The Queen Mother who always enjoyed talking with the gardeners. Jim’s gardening career started here in Edenbridge when he worked for Greater London Council looking after Spitals Cross Estate.
