The Town Council is thrilled that Sevenoaks District Council (SDC) has agreed an investment programme of around £2.2million in Edenbridge Leisure Centre. It will be one of the biggest investments in the centre since it opened.
Town councillors have long-campaigned to SDC for investment in the centre, understanding the importance of these these facilities for our community. It’s even what motivated our current chairwoman Councillor Angela Baker, to join the Council in 2019!
We’re also pleased to hear that SDC will continue to seek external funding to support investment in the all-weather pitch (subject to additional drainage surveys).

Sevenoaks District Council press release – 17 June 2026
Sevenoaks District Council has agreed to one of the biggest investments in Edenbridge Leisure Centre since it opened, securing its future and enhancing facilities for years to come.
At its meeting on 16 June 2026, the Council’s Cabinet agreed to a major ‘renew and replenish’ investment programme that could see around £2.2 million invested in the centre up to 2027.
The funding will be used to improve key facilities, upgrading essential plant and ensuring the long-term operation of the site.
The work builds on improvements already delivered over the past year, including a refurbished gym, new fitness equipment, cycle studio and café area.
The newly approved programme includes:
- Major upgrades to the wet-side changing village, including new lockers, flooring, and improved facilities
- Replacement of the sports hall roof to enable year-round use for sport and community activities
- A programme of mechanical and electrical improvements, including replacement boilers, heating systems and ventilation
- Upgrades to the building management system and improvements to the main entrance
- Continued investment in the facilities identified as priorities by centre users.
- The Council will also continue to seek external funding, including Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) contributions from developers, to support further improvements such as investment in the all-weather pitch, (subject to additional drainage surveys).
The decision follows a detailed assessment of all available options. The investment focusses on targeted, high-impact improvements that can be carried out at pace, benefitting local residents and ensuring the centre remains well used and valued by the community.
Cllr Michael Horwood, the Council’s Cabinet Improvement and Innovation, says:
“Edenbridge Leisure Centre is highly valued by the local community, and our decision to invest more than £2 million demonstrates our strong commitment to its future.
“With the sudden imposition of Local Government Reorganisation, we wanted to invest in the centre to ensure the plant, boilers, roof and changing rooms are all renewed and replenished before being handed over to the new unitary authority.
We have carefully considered all options within the limited time available from the impending local government reorganisation, and this investment allows us to make major improvements, enhancing the experience for users and supporting health and wellbeing across Edenbridge and the surrounding villages.
“We will be funding the improvements from a mix of funding from existing council budgets, the centre’s leisure provider Everyone Active, and from securing a £1 million financial contribution from developers, subject to consideration by the Council’s Community Infrastructure Levy Committee.”
Notes to editors:
