At the Full Council meeting on 12 January, councillors approved the Town Council’s budget and precept for 2026-27.

The budget has been prepared against a backdrop of continued cost pressures affecting town and parish councils nationally. Councillors and officers have carefully scrutinised budgets line by line to identify savings wherever possible, while aiming to maintain the services and standards residents value.

Chair of the Council, Cllr Angela Baker, said: “The Council remains committed to delivering value for money while safeguarding services that contribute to the quality of life in Edenbridge. Our budget will enable us to continue to provide the services that residents value, while also delivering new projects – including a new bandstand at Stangrove Park, a new community garden space on the old Police site, and an upgraded playground at Marsh Green. This year, we will also continue to engage a planning consultant to help ensure Edenbridge is properly represented in Sevenoaks District Council’s Local Plan consultation.”

Budget and Precept

The budget outlines the Council’s income and what it plans to spend. It also includes the precept – the amount of tax each household pays towards the services of Edenbridge Town Council, which is collected via your yearly Council Tax bill from Sevenoaks District Council. Your Council Tax also covers services provided by the Police, Kent County Council and Kent Fire & Rescue.

The agreed Precept represents a 5.7% increase, meaning the Town Council element of Council Tax for a Band D property will be £212.64 – an increase of £11.56 on last year, or around 96p per month.
