Thank you to everyone who took part in this year’s Edenbridge Gardens in Bloom competition. We hope all entrants are proud of their efforts, and that the displays may inspire others to try something new in their own gardens.
Unique display
This year featured a special category: a unique display to celebrate the 130th anniversary of Edenbridge Town Council. It was wonderful to see the creative entries submitted for this occasion. The winner was Peter and Penny Brook who explain how they have created a haven inspired by our town’s defining natural feature – the River Eden.

Peter and Penny’s garden takes inspiration from the River Eden
“We have a feature in our garden inspired by our love of watercourses, particularly the River Eden. This year we have renovated a series of small ponds that create the appearance of a stream. We sowed wildflower seeds in the bare earth left by the renovations and there is now a riot of colour alongside all the mini ponds.
Our garden ‘stream’ feature provides what we would like to see in and alongside the River Eden: clean water, a wide variety of abundant wildflowers for pollen and nectar, and a haven for wildlife such as aquatic insects and larvae, amphibians and grass snakes.
The River Eden is the defining natural feature of our town so we feel a celebration of it is a fitting way to mark 130 years of the Town Council. This is particularly the case as the Town Council has enhanced the wildlife value of the river by collaborating with Sevenoaks District Council to ensure that the Town Field is maintained as a wildflower meadow.”
And the winners are…
Although we were unable to hold a presentation evening this year – partly due to maintenance work at Rickards Hall – we would still like to publicly congratulate the winners and thank everyone who took part.
