Happy and Glorious celebration for King’s Coronation

Edenbridge celebrated in style on Sunday 7 May with a Big Coronation Lunch at the Recreation Ground to mark the Coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla.

There was live music and entertainment, activities for the whole family and a range of food trucks and stalls. lots of people set up for the day and enjoyed picnics too.

It was great to see everyone coming together and community spirit in abundance. Well done to all the young princes and princesses who entered our crown competition!

Our thanks go to Heart of Sevenoaks for organising such a well-organised event on behalf of the Council and our Edenbridge community. Big thanks also to The Great Stone Bridge Trust of Edenbridge for its grant towards the costs, as well as Edenbridge Bonfire Society for providing the stage, and Edenbridge Town Band for contributing to the afternoon music programme.

God Save the King!

Start preparing your Coronation celebrations!

Crown and stickers

The Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III will take place on Saturday 6 May 2023, beginning three days of celebrations.

The extended bank holiday weekend will provide many opportunities for everyone to come together to mark this special occasion with street parties and community events.

Any resident who is considering holding an event is being urged to think ahead as they may need permission for certain activities.

Road closures

All applications for road closures should be made to Kent County Council by the deadline of Friday 3 March 2023. Kent County Council has confirmed you will not have to pay a road closure application fee.

Once an application is received, officers make sure the route is safe and the event will comply with the terms and conditions before confirming it can go ahead.

To be eligible for the fee waiver, the road closure must be planned for up to one day between 6 and 8 May and must be for the sole purpose of holding a celebration street party in a residential area.

Parties will be approved for residential roads where only resident traffic would be impacted. KCC will not be able to approve parties on main roads, bus routes or any road that needs to be used to access shops or businesses.

Before applying for a closure, applicants must speak to residents in the area to make sure they have no objections, ensure signs are clearly visible for all road users and make sure all rubbish is cleared before the road is reopened.

Successful sites will be provided with road closure signs.

Alcohol and Entertainment

Events that include the sale of alcohol and certain forms of entertainment may also need a Premises Licence or a Temporary Event Notice from Sevenoaks District Council.

Anyone who wants to know more about making an application, funding opportunities and celebratory events over the Coronation weekend should visit www.sevenoaks.gov.uk/coronation
