Full-time (37-hours per week Monday to Friday)
The apprenticeship is offered on a two-year contract, with a 3-month probation period. Salary is offered on the NJC pay scales LC1, £20,921 (including outer fringe London Weighting Allowance), 23 days annual leave plus two stat days and bank holidays. Uniform is provided.
This a new opportunity to join the Council’s groundstaff team and learn the skills needed to look after the town’s opens spaces and sports pitches. The Council has eight parks and greens, the Millennium Wood, five playgrounds, four cemeteries and other sites that the groundstaff work to maintain. Work includes grass cutting, refuse management, hedge and vegetation management, weeding, planting and sports pitch management.
Having completed a three-month probationary period, the successful applicant will be enrolled on a Level 2 Sports Turf Operative apprenticeship, which will be overseen and assessed by a horticultural land-based College. The apprentice must compile a portfolio of evidence during the on-programme period of the apprenticeship working towards competence as a sports turf operative, and there will be an assessment during the last 3-months. The typical period of the apprenticeship is 18-months. During the period we will help provide training on drainage systems, turf management and marking out sports pitches as well as tractor driving skills.
The successful applicant will be someone who enjoys working outside (all weather), has an interest in learning about grounds management and develop skills, and ensuring open spaces are maintained to a high standard. They will need a full driving licence (or in the process of gaining this – as is a requirement to drive the tractor).
Application form must be completed.
