Engaging with young people and helping them understand how local decisions are made is an important part of the Council’s work.
Our Chair, Councillor Angela Baker, recently visited Crockham Hill Primary School where she spent time with the children talking about her role on the Council and how councillors are involved in considering local issues like the Local Plan, proposed housing developments and infrastructure plans.
The children had plenty of thoughtful questions and showed a real curiosity about the decisions that could shape their local community. Following the visit, one of the teachers shared some lovely feedback: “It was so nice of Cllr Baker to spend time with our children in their classes. The children learned so much and she really inspired their curiosity to find out more! It was a really rich learning opportunity for them, which will feed into their project work going forward this term.”
A big thank you to Crockham Hill Primary School for such a warm welcome. We hope the visit has encouraged some future community leaders!
